The ice rink at the Taos Youth and Family Center is closed until November.

TRAIL CLOSURE

The Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office is continuing the closure of the La Junta Trail at the Wild Rivers Recreation Area. The closure is required to address maintenance needs. The closure will remain in effect until further notice.

La Junta Point Overlook and Campground will remain open during this time. Visitors can access the River Trail and the lower parts of the canyon from the Little Arsenic Springs Trail or Big Arsenic Springs Trail. The BLM asks the public to respect the closure of the trails.

As always, the BLM Taos field office reminds all visitors to take precautions when visiting public lands. Visitors are reminded to dress appropriately, consider local weather conditions and altitude, and remember your outdoor essentials: water, snacks, appropriate footwear, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. For more information, please contact the BLM Taos field office at (575)758-8851.

SKI WITH A RANGER

At Pioneer Lift, Taos Ski Valley, on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Meet at the bottom of the Pioneer Lift underneath or next to a giant green-and-white banner that reads, “Ski with a Ranger.” As long as you can comfortably handle the green slopes on the mountain (including Honeysuckle on the backside), you are welcome to join the group. Usually we talk about flora and fauna of the immediate mountain environment, history and culture of the area, history of the Forest Service, the ski area, the village of Taos Ski Valley as well as the relationship among us. And perhaps most important of all, we teach, emphasize and practice mountain safety! Average duration of a tour is about an hour to an hour and a half.
