TiLT needs more plastic

Local non-profit Taos Initiative for Life Together is looking for clean, used plastic materials.

TiLT has been working with one of their members to build a garden shed out of walls containing plastic containers and bags for filler. Taos architect Doug Eichelberger’s came up with the design of a metal cage stuffed with plastic and helped teach the TiLT team how to use the method to build the shed.

Each of the shed’s walls contain about 24 trashbags worth of compacted plastic and the group is looking for more to finish the project.

Any plastic materials can be stuffed into the walls. Plastic must be cleaned and cannot contain vessels for motor oil or pesticides.

TiLT collected plastic in preparation for a workshop on building the walls. The workshops cover a variety of topics and are held every Wednesday at the TiLT home location on 215 La Posta Road.

Those interested in donating used plastic to the group can contact TiLT director Todd Wynward at toddwynward@gmail.com.
