Today (Jan. 10), Taos Ski Valley announced on its social media channels that Kachina Peak is now open for hikers only. All of West Basin is open too. Kachina Peak did not open last season, 2017/18.
"We're very excited to be able to open Kachina Peak to hikers this early in the season. Our Ski Patrol team has really hustled to make this happen. We couldn't be more thrilled for that opening, as well as all of West Basin is now open," said Dash Hegemen, marketing manager for Taos Ski Valley.
Kachina Peak (12,481') is the hallmark of the legendary skiing that founder Ernie Blake cultivated in Taos Ski Valley. "Hiking the ridge" to access expert terrain – including Kachina Peak, rated double-black diamond – is a rite of passage for many expert skiers and riders.
At this point, Taos Ski Valley does not have an estimated date of opening for the Kachina Peak Lift.
