The Taos Lady Tigers ended their season with an unexpected loss at Taos Eco Park Oct. 28.
This was the lone upset in the opening round of the class A/4A tournament, as the 7th ranked Lady Tigers were toppled by the 10th ranked Robertson (Las Vegas) Lady Cardinals 2-0.
The game was deadlocked at 0-0 in the first half with Taos seemingly in control of the tempo of the game, with field position and ball possession in the Lady Tigers' favor. The second half saw a shift, however, when an out-of-the-blue shot on goal by Robertson sophomore striker, Maricela Montoya found the back of the net – giving the Lady Cards a 1-0 lead. An additional goal by Montoya a short time later sealed the victory for the Lady Cardinals, who advanced to the quarterfinals with the win and will take on the Bosque Lady Bobcats at the Bernalillo Soccer Complex Nov. 2.
The Lady Tigers finish their 2017 season with an 11-6 (.647 win percentage) overall record, and bid farewell to eight seniors.
