Taos athletes swim state qualifying times at Bill Hudson Invite

On Saturday (Dec. 7), the Taos swim team competed in the Bill Hudson Invite in Los Alamos.

The athletes swam well in early season competition. Every swimmer improved on their times from the previous meet in November of last year.

Meet highlights for the girls

The girls placed fifth out of 12 teams. The girls 400 Free Relay placed third with team members Grace Goler, Angelina Griego, Maye Montoya and Aricela Chavez. The same four girls placed fourth in the 200 Medley Relay. Grace Goler got first place in the 50 Free and 2nd in the 100 Free, swimming fast enough meet the state qualifying time. All four girls scored points in their individual events.

Meet highlights for the boys

The boys placed fourth out of 14 teams. The boys 400 Free Relay Team of Estevan Salazar, Eddie Duran, Dillon Brown and Diego Griego punched their ticket to the state meet, placing third with a fast time to qualify. The Medley Relay Team with Uriel Chavez, Estevan, Eddie and Diego placed 2nd and came within .38 seconds of a state-qualifying time as well. Also scoring points for the Tigers were: Nate Martinez, Max Meadowcroft, Fabian Torres, Eduardo Munoz, Jorge Jimenez and Roman McAdams.

The Tigers will be swimming in the Belen Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 14) at the Belen High School Natatorium. Competition begins at 10 a.m.
