Snowstorm underway for Taos

Posted

Get those snow boots and prepare for winter as Taos County readies for the first big snow of the season, with snow accumulating throughout the day.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for northern and central New Mexico for the end of the week.

Albuquerque meteorologists from the National Weather Service say colder air today (Thursday, Nov. 21) will drop snow levels to about 6500 to 7000 feet while a backdoor cold front will drop snow levels even lower across the northeast. Snow is expected to accumulate quickly with 1 to 4 inches possible between 6500 to 7500 feet and more than 6 inches possible at higher elevations. Precipitation will gradually taper off Thursday night.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

The storm will likely remain in Taos into the weekend and the National Weather Service is predicting heavy snow accumulation during the event.

By Saturday (Nov. 23), the sun should be out again, but temperatures will drop into the teens for the weekend lows.
