It's time for the annual Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort celebration over Presidents Day weekend. The free family February Fun Fest, Feb. 16-18, includes a giant snow castle, costume contest and parade, mountain-wide treasure hunt, games and prizes, according to a press release from the resort.
The Sipapu mountain team spent the week designing and building the snow castle, a structure two to three stories tall with stairs, slides, flags and more for people to play on. The castle design is different every year. Construction of the snow castle began Feb. 9 and continues through Friday (Feb. 16). The snow castle opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 16).
In addition to the snow castle, Sipapu hosts a part-scavenger, all-adventure treasure hunt that takes place around the mountain on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. Participants look for laminated letters that spell "clown." The first to find all the letters can return them to the ski school for a prize.
A different kind of treasure hunt takes place Saturday for guests older than age 21. Santa Fe Brewing is hosting a Happy Hops Hunt with prizes. Sipapu's Facebook and Twitter pages will reveal tips and clues throughout the day of the event for where to find hidden beer cans stuffed with goodies. Redeem prizes in the base area. On Valentine's Day, try out the Love on the Lift - Lift 1 which features two lift lines for singles. Pair up on the lift and see if a connection is made.
