The 2019 Taos Marathon is this Sunday (June 2). The 26.2-mile marathon starts at 5 a.m., as does the five-person relay marathon. The 13.1 mile half-marathon, the 5K run and the 5K walk all start at 7 a.m. Runners can register at RunningGuru.com until noon Saturday (June 1) and also in person 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (June 1) at the Kachina Lodge Hotel. There is no race day registration. The race starts at the road to Taos Pueblo, next to Allsup’s.

Mata Leao Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and FreeWorld Fitness will have a grand opening celebration on Saturday (June 1), from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be fitness competitions, a jiujitsu demonstration, a bounce house, airbrush tattoos, food and fun. Free. The address is 112 Dona Ana, next to the Taos Spa, behind Dollar General.

Free, noncompetitive baseball league for 55+ seniors is forming in Taos. It’s fun, pickup-style baseball on the high school field for both men and women. Show up when you can on Sunday afternoons – from June to September, and play within your comfort range. Reserve a spot by sending an email to Mark Pritchard at mp@taosnet.com.

KTAOS Solar Volleyball League plays every Tuesday and Friday 5-9 p.m. through August 30. No teams are needed to play. Doors open at 3 p.m. and games commence at 5 p.m. It’s free and everyone is invited to the KTAOS Solar Center (9 State Road 150) to join in.

La Junta Trail Closure: The Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office is continuing the closure of the La Junta Trail at the Wild Rivers Recreation Area. La Junta Point Overlook and Campground will remain open during this time. Visitors can access the River Trail and the lower parts of the canyon from the Little Arsenic Springs Trail or Big Arsenic Springs Trail. The BLM asks the public to respect the closure of the trails.
