Angel Fire preps for opening day

On Friday (Dec. 13), Angel Fire Resort will open its trails and lifts to skiers for the upcoming ski season.

According to a press release, the resort has received 52 inches of "natural snow" over the storms this fall and "the mountain operations team has also been taking advantage of the colder temperatures throughout the past four weeks making snow in anticipation of this year's opening."

According to the release, there will be "over 85 skiable acres, Liberation Terrain Park, four chairlifts, and two moving carpets, and two of the four-lanes of the Polar Coaster Tubing Hill all open this Friday."

On opening day, the resort also plans to let kids 6 and under ski for free, as well as fifth graders. There will also be free giveaways, discounted lodging and hills for sledding.

Basketball tournament at Taos Charter School

Taos Charter School is hosting the Taos Youth Basketball Tourney Dec. 21-23. The tournament is open to all fourth and fifth graders.

There is no entry fee to compete, and prizes will be given throughout the tournament. All players who compete, though, must sign a liability waiver.

Teams who enter will have their team name renamed after a sponsor's title name, according to the flyer. At the end of the tournament, first- through third-place teams will receive a glass trophy. For more information, call JoJo at (575) 741-6061.
