Hundreds of competitors and spectators converged at Angel Fire Resort for the 40th World Championship Shovel Races on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 8-9).

Racers of all ages and abilities took part in the annual challenge, which involved sliding down the front face of Angel Fire ski mountain while sitting in the scoop of an aluminum snow shovel.

The top speed this year was 64 miles per hour, achieved by siblings Justin and Nadia Gonzales. The Gonzaleses placed first in the Pro Men and Pro Women categories, respectively.
