MS specialist to discuss disorder, latest research

Dr. J.T. Phillips, a specialist in multiple sclerosis, will present a free question-and-answer session Saturday (Aug. 10) at 1 p.m. at the Taos County Economic Development Corporation meeting room, 1021 Salazar Road, in Taos.

The talk is free and open to everyone - people with MS, their caregivers, family members and health care providers. The talk is sponsored by the Taos MS Support Group.

Phillips has a 40-year career in multiple sclerosis patient care and research. He was founder and director of the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic at the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center in Dallas from 1984-1993 and was founder and director from 1993-2011 of the MS Clinic and Research Center at Texas Neurology in Dallas. Phillips is a clinical professor in neurology at the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and the University of New Mexico Medical Center in Albuquerque, where he is involved in the MS research program.

Over his career, Phillips has authored many research papers published in academic journals and books. He is a frequent lecturer and an active volunteer for the National MS Society.
