Updated Aug. 25 at 10 a.m.

A motorcyclist who crashed in the southbound lane of State Road 68 between the Sagebrush Inn and the southside Guadalajara Grill in Taos Saturday night (Aug. 24) is recovering from minor injuries.

The crash was reported over emergency radio channels around 10:15 p.m., with Taos Police units and an ambulance arriving on scene within a few minutes of the call.

Medics who responded transported the driver of the motorcycle to Holy Cross Medical Center on nearby Weimer Road.

Taos Police Chief David Trujillo said the motorcyclist, a young man, was traveling east on Chamisa Road when he laid his bike down at the road's intersection with State Road 68.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, Trujillo said, but only suffered a minor laceration to his head.

Taos Police assisted in temporarily shutting down the lane and helped divert traffic around the site of the crash, where the driver's vehicle laid turned over on its side.

Several people had gathered on the sidewalk on the west side of the road as first responders examined the scene and called for a tow truck to haul the motorcycle away.

Chief Trujillo said hospital staff expected the man would be released from their care the night of the crash.
