Make a mask - or two or 10!

Normally, this page would be devoted to sports. But there is nothing normal about life currently in the midst of a coronavirus pandemic. With school and spring sports canceled for the rest of this semester and people urged to stay at home to prevent the spread of the disease, instead this page is being used this week to publish part of the pattern for a simple mask that can help protect health care workers, first responders and your own family from the virus.

The rest of the pattern and instructions are on pages B3 and C1. This pattern is for a version of an Olson Mask designed by Clayton Skousen and Rose Hedges of UnityPoint Health and currently used by a group of Taoseños busily making masks for those who need them most (see story, page A6).

This is an activity the whole family can participate in and have fun with while helping yourself and others.

Send photos of you and your family making masks to We'll publish them in a future edition of the Taos News.
