Jon Francis Greenley


Jon Francis Greenley, Age 76, passed peacefully in his home Saturday, September 7th following a battle with brain cancer. An entrepreneur, artist, horseman, and senior men's league baseball player, the politically astute and well-read Greenley appreciated conversations over bonfires, and an IPA with friends. The son of the late Francis J. and late Cis Greenley of Verona, NJ, he is survived by Karen Pfluger and one brother, Ric Greenley and his wife Debbie, along with Anais, his niece. Greenley studied animal husbandry at University of Tennessee for two years before graduating from Wagner College with a B.A. in Fine Arts. After serving as a draftsman in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War, Greenley continued his studies at Angewandte Kunst, the University for Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. He then worked as an artist for the Asbury Park Press, and as an illustrator for various advertising agencies in New Jersey. He co-owned and managed Windfall Stables in Woodbury, Connecticut, with Karen Pfluger. Together they ran the boarding facility and had recognized horse trials, dressage, and hunter-jumper shows. Together they built a home in Bethlehem, Conn., with various dogs, cats, and his favorite horse Natasha. Later in his working career, Greenley started a business called Precision Pools, Inc., Danbury, CT where he installed swimming pools in the warmer monthsand a Christmas store off-season. Retiring to pursue his lifelong love of art, Greenley created equestrian-themed pottery in Floyd, Virginia. He then moved to Taos, NM, where he built an off-grid straw bale home and specialized in oil and acrylic landscape paintings in a style reminiscent of the impressionists.A pitcher and first baseman in a senior men's baseball league in Taos, NM, Jon passed holding an autographed baseball from his teammates.A celebration of Greenley's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to an animal-support organization of your choice.
