Volunteering at the federal agency is a great way to get a foot in the door, learn about the culture and be ready when a permanent position opens. Seasonal trail maintenance and helping at visitor centers are a few of the volunteer positions available. Seasonal firefighting jobs are a way to both get paid for vital work and get started in the agency.

The Carson National Forest is one of five national forests in New Mexico, encompassing 1.5 million acres of land with elevation changes from 6,000 feet to 13,161 feet.  It is a mixed-use forest famous for mountain biking, hiking and equestrian trails along with permits for livestock grazing and firewood cutting.
