Canutito walked slowly hacia la hielera that morning. Tenía hambre and he was looking por algo para comer to satisfy his hunger but there was nothing to eat. All he found allí entre los shelves era un old, wilted piece of lettuce con mojo brown growing between las hojas de la moldy lechuga y una half-empty botellita de French's mustard que había hecho expire cinco meses pasãos.

"Tenemos que ir shopping, grampo," Canutito called out. "Tenemos que comprar más grocerías."

"Groceries are not 'grocerías', m'hijo," Grama Cuca yelled over. "Las groceries are called 'mandado' in Spanish; grocerías son 'gross things'." Y luego she added: "Vamos a hacer una lista of all the things that we need to buy. ¿Qué compramos?"

"I'm a total pescatarian," Grampo Caralampio said proudly.

"¿Qué es un 'pescatarian,' grampo?" Canutito asked him.

"It comes from the Spanish word 'pescado' which means 'a fish.' Es una persona que come nothing but fish, m'hijo," grampo replied. I can eat todas clases de pescados no matter what they are. Yo puedo comer tuna, trout, bacalão or even sardines all day long and still be able to work."

"I understand atún, trucha, cod y sardinas, grampo," Canutito said, "pero qué es la general word for 'fish?'"

"Well, eso hace depend on whether it is in the frying pan o en el agua; if it is caught y friéndose en la puela, then it is called 'pescado' pero if it is swimming in the water, entonces es 'pez.'"

"If it is a boy fish o una girl fish can it be called un pez or una pez, grampo?" Canutito asked, un poco perplexed.

"No hay mucha diferencia entre boy fishes and girl fishes, m'hijo," Grampo

Caralampio replied. "I think qué you can call the fish 'el pez' or 'la pez' pero I prefer to called it 'lópez' porque it is neither one."

"That's silly, grampo," Canutito laughed, y luego he asked: "Is Grama Cuca una pescatarian también o nomás during Lent?"

"Tu grama come all kinds of food, m'hijo," grampo said. "Ella es una 'omnivore' como los josos; porque bears eat all kinds of stuff. Ella come fruta de manera que es una 'frugivore'. También come hierbas, de manera que she is also una 'herbivore.'

Cuando iba a tener un baby, she would crave dirt; las personas que comen tierra cometen 'geophagia.' Pero if I had to place a tu grama en una categoría, I would say que ella es una 'carnívora' porque she really likes to eat meat."

Canutito estaba todo fascinated con las explicaciones de su grampo. He thought que su grampo era un genius. As he was sitting allí en la cocina, grampo cleared his throat y luego le preguntó al muchito: "And you, m'hijo, ¿qué clase de persona eres tú? -- Cuál es un comida favorita?"

Canutito thought por unos cuántos minutos before answering pero al fin he said:

"I think that I am either a tootsie rollarian or a snickerian porque me gusta comer los Tootsie Rolls y los Snickers bars."

Grampo smiled porque now el muchito was funny…
