Sitting in his eighth-grade classroom at TISA, dressed in Taos Tigers sweats, Leonard Archuleta is anxiously waiting for the end of the school day. He's ready to go to Taos High School for another grueling football practice in preparation for the biggest game of his life so far.

Archuleta has been a TISA student since kindergarten and since he was 6 years old, he's also been a football player for Taos teams.

Though he's only in eighth-grade, Archuleta plays varsity football as a kicker and linebacker for the Taos Tigers. The Tigers triumphed Saturday (Nov. 24) over the Portales team, winning 35 to 14. And at the team's Nov. 17 game, they won over the Lovington Wildcats with a final score of 55 to 7.

This has been a great season for the Taos Tigers, and they are going to play Bloomfield Saturday (Dec. 1) for the state championship. You can bet his biggest fans, parents Mel and Len Archuleta, will be on the sidelines as they have since the beginning.

Archelta's love for football happens to run in the family.

"Both my dad and my brother played football in high school," says Archuleta.

Archuleta was inspired by football players he saw on TV. He wants to pursue his football career through college and hopefully beyond.

His mom's pregame nachos power him through the games, so does hearing his mom's cheering.

As TISA students, we are proud of our own Taos Tiger, and we will be cheering for him and all the other amazing Tigers for the big game on Saturday.

Go Leonard! Go Taos Tigers!
