Update 4:40 p.m. June 25— Firefighters have "knocked down" many of the flames and have sent a couple fire engines away. They continue to put out hot spots.
A fire has been reported in the sagebrush near the Stakeout area south of Taos, closing at least the southbound lane of State Road 68 as firefighters respond to battle the blaze.
According to chatter on the Taos Central Dispatch, the fire was reported around 3:45 p.m. It's burning on the east side of the highway.
Firefighters are gathering near the scene at Mile Markers 35.
Brush trucks and water tankers have been requested by firefighters at the small fire. "“[We’re] getting some okay knock down [but] decent winds are blowing in," said one responder at the fire.
This is a developing story.
