The global day of action calls to break this chain of gender-based violence.
Dozens of Taoseños united in dance and advocacy on Thursday (Feb. 14) during the seventh annual Taos One Billion Rising event at Taos Plaza.
Across the planet, an estimated one billion women and girls will be beaten or raped in their lifetime, according to statistics on the One Billion Rising website. The global day of action calls to break this chain of gender-based violence.
In addition to sexual and physical violence, the 2019 theme also aimed to bring awareness to the systemic violence experienced by women in economic, political, sociocultural, environmental and ideological spheres. The Taos event included wellness activity tables, the flash mob dance, poetry readings and a march through the plaza area.
