Correction appended

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle while riding southbound on State Road 230 in Des Montes Friday afternoon (June 26) – the third fatal traffic accident in Taos County this week.

Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe said first responders from his office, Hondo-Seco Volunteer Fire Department and Taos County Emergency Services responded to a report of the collision around 3 p.m.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was uninjured.

"Alcohol is not suspected nor is speed," Hogrefe said.

The accident took place just south of the highway's intersection with Hondo-Seco Road, which connects Arroyo Hondo to the west with Arroyo Seco to the east.

Hogrefe said the bicyclist was from out of state, but did not release his or her identity on Friday.

A prior version of this story incorrectly named the area where the accident took place as El Prado.
