The Dixon Farmers Market will open its season Wednesday (June 12), 3:30-6:30 p.m. in front of the Co-op. Winston Woods will provide music for your listening pleasure. For more information, call (505) 570-9199.

The Santa Rosa Fiesta Committee will host a Frito pie/hot dog fundraiser at the Embudo Valley Community Center on Sunday (June 30), from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The Dixon Cooperative Market is seeking some qualified volunteers to help paint the new portal, sometime during the week of June 10. The painting needs to be completed before the bricks get put down, and we're looking for a few people with some experience in this endeavor who would like to help out their community store. If interested, contact Maggie or Nelson at the store.

Dixon Community Van Services will begin June 11 offering round trips to events/appointments/attractions/shuttle connections. Services also include errands/recycling. Scheduled round trips to Taos are at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Española at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. For rides and services, call (575) 224-5233 or e-mail Winlom1234@gmail.com.

Former Questa mayor dies

Lawrence C. Gallegos, former mayor of the village of Quest, passed away peacefully June 1 at the age of 70, a resident of Questa.

Gallegos served in the Vietnam War. He returned to his hometown to run a business and serve the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Eva Gallegos; in-laws, Tony and Candida Trujillo; brother/padrino and sister-in-law, Tony Valdez and Christine Trujillo. Lawrence served in the US Army and was honorably discharged after serving in the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Alice Gallegos; children, Mark (Christina), Domingo, Candida (Armando), Daniel (Jacky) Gallegos, and Consuelo Salazar (Ronnie); 13 grandchildren and many other family and friends. His funeral Mass was June 5 at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Questa. Arrangements were handled by DeVargas Funeral Home.
